Staff Pick - Kenda Tires
![]() | Kenda Small Block Eight - our favourite dry conditions race tire! Give these tires a ride or two to adjust, you will realize that those tiny little knobs really do work, especially at low pressure. We prefer the UST version run around 25 psi front and back for maximum cushioning and grip and minimum rolling resistance. Also a pretty good around-town / gravel path mixed tire. Note: Not a wet conditions tire, especially in wet rock gardens.

![]() | Kenda Dread Tread - an excellent choice for the cross country rider who does some racing, some trail riding, and doesn’t like to switch tires between events. More agressive that the Small Block Eight, the slight sacrifice in rolling speed is made up for with increased traction braking, accelarating up hills, and cornering. Still nice and fast, these tires feel fine rolling on pavement to and from the trailhead, and will still grip through wet patches. Like the Small Blocks, we run the UST version at 25 lbs front and rear, and love it! |
![]() | Kenda Nevegal - Bryden’s Fave, and Mountain Bike Actions’ ’Tire of the Year’ over and over again! Not really a ’race tire’, but rather an excellent all-conditions cross country tire that can be used for racing. Excellent cornering, grip, and braking, with those angled knobs providing good rolling resistance. New to racing and looking for a confident tire? Ride in the wet and big rock gardens? Love to pin it in single track and rail the corners? This guy’s for you! |
| Going Tubeless | There’s a reason almost all racers have converted to tubeless tire systems; the reduced tire pressure that a tubeless allows increases traction by enlarging the tire patch, and rolls better over small obstacles, acting as a small suspension system. Most new wheelsets accept tubeless tires (UST) easily with the addition of a universal valve and tubeless rim strip. Gearhead is happy to setup your tubeless system for $30 labour + parts. |
Staff Pick - Camelbak Mule
|
| "The Camelbak Mule is my go-to Hydration system! When I reach in the bike box it always comes out, plenty of storage space inside plus a 3L reservoir makes the perfect combo for those Saturday epic rides or the fast Tuesday morning ride. The straps are wide and comfortable with extra clips for hooking ipods and phones onto plus the double harness and waist strap help keep it in place and lessen rubbing. Plus the new NVIS back panel helps keep the moisture from sweat off your back for a much more enjoyable ride." |
Staff Pick - Chromag Lynx Saddle
|
| "This saddle is amazing for DH and freeriding! It rocks titanium rails giving it strength and rigidity out of this world. This super comfy saddle is held together with real leather, sorry for all you herbivores out there but when you’re bomb’n down the mountain you want the genuine leather feel! In true Chromag style this saddle is dressed out with the classic Chromag logo, the angry bear. For rippin’ DH up or feeding off your buddies on the best free ride trails there is no better saddle than the Chromag Lynx. Strength, comfort and awesome art all in one sweet package!" |
Staff Pick - Lizard Skins Lock-on Grips
![]() | Grips are 2 of your 5 contact points with the bike, so they better be good! I had always selected grips based on low weight and maximum ’cush’, but the Lizard Skins Lock-on Grips have changed my mind and I am a converted lock-on man! Zero twisting in wet weather is worth the extra ounce of weight the first time you DON’T pull one off hammering up that big climb! Forget cush - the firm grip is still comfortable with gloves on, and gives a substantial performance bonus. A Gearhead who likes to play with his setup like me appreciates how easily the grips can be removed, reinstalled and reused. Last factor - BLING! Custom end rings means you can rock the Gearhead logo in a subtle way. Lizard Skins Lock-on Grips are my new "only" grip! |
